For Fall 2023* entry and beyond.

The Bachelor of Science in Data Science program allows students to develop data analytics skills applied to several content areas. Students will learn computational science and statistics skills broadly applied to data science careers. The program allows students to deepen their understanding of using data analytics skills within a specific discipline. Through comprehensive coursework, including a capstone project and Industry-Based Learning, students will gain skills in data literacy, acquisition, management, analytics, and making inferences from data using computational science, mathematical, and statistical concepts. After the program, students will possess a broad skill set encompassing Data Description and Curation, Mathematical Foundations, Computational Thinking, Statistical Thinking, Data Modeling, Communication, Reproducibility, and Ethics.

More importantly, students in this program will learn to develop predictive models using state-of-the-art Machine Learning techniques, including Deep Learning. Also, our students engage with big data analytics and design end-to-end data analytics pipelines to solve real-world problems. The core of our data science curriculum allows students to apply their understanding and data science skillsets to solve data analytics problems in any discipline. Students earning this degree can pursue careers as Data Scientist, Data/Big Data Analyst, Machine Learning Engineer, Applied Research Scientist, Data Engineer, and Data/Solution Architect. In addition, students can pursue pathways to advanced education in data science and other fields, including pharmacy, medicine, and engineering.

This degree has the option to allow students to pursue an integrated Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) and Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Data Science. While any major at the University can prepare you to enter the pharmacy program, the curriculum in this degree can be modified to include all Pharm.D. prerequisites in the first three years. This integrated degree consists of three years of undergraduate work followed by a four-year professional program. Coursework for the first professional year overlaps with coursework required in the senior year of the undergraduate program so that students may earn a bachelor’s degree at the conclusion of the first year of the Pharm.D. program.
