Biology is a diverse, integrative, and ever-evolving discipline that centers on all living organisms (from those that are single-celled to multicellular organisms containing interdependent organ systems) and how they respond, adapt, and interact with their respective biotic and abiotic environment. The field of biology attempts to explain the relationships between pattern and process as well as examines diversity and its causal explanation. A minor in biology will complement many careers including pharmacy, the health sciences, medicine, law, agriculture, bioinformatics, natural resources, engineering, K-12 education, biotechnology, anthropology, journalism, political science, psychology, and statistics. It can also help prepare you for a professional program, graduate studies, and/or a career in research, government, and industry. A strong biology background contributes to greater scientific literacy which will enable you to speak intelligibly on controversial issues such as genetically modified organisms, cloning, population growth, the use of natural resources, and climate change.
